I’ve got this weird problem. During the winter/cold (January in Wisconsin), my ’99 – 95SE 250k miles, started acting up by idling rough. Checking the BB here it was suggested maybe a vacuum hose problem. I checked around and found the vacuum hose from the crank case was cracked so I replaced it. Problem still existed. So, I took it to my indy and he spotted a vacuum hose was off of my throttle body. Replaced that hose but still was having a problem with rough idling. Cleaned the MAP sensor but no help. Took it back to my indy and he told me my DIC was shot. Replaced the red DIC with a black one. Problem seamed to go away. After about 1 week and extreme low temperature (-10), the engine had a real hard time starting.… it spitted and sputtered and after about 5 to 10 seconds the engine “kicked” in and then ran fine. Same problem the next day. It pulled a few codes 0455 comes to mind. Took it back to my indy and of course everything checked out OK. Problem never returned. Then about 4 weeks later …. A lot of white smoke not when I started the car but when I drove off. After about 10 blocks the white smoke went away and the car ran great and pulling no codes. Then the next day a lot of white smoke while idling the car to warm up. Decided not to drive the car until I could get it to my Indy but was afraid it was something major and was thinking, with this many miles on the car, it might be done for. So now it is April and the temperatures are nice and warm (+60 to +70)…. Went out to start the car and take it to the grave yard. After charging the battery, to my surprise, the car started easy, no white smoke and it drove fantastic. I’ve been driving it for a few days now and the car runs great and no smoke. So now my question is …. What the heck is/was the problem???? Could it be a sticking EVAP purge valve or some other vacuum problem? Help me by giving me some suggestions to look for, what to clean, what to lube. Thanks in advance for the tips.
