Overheating diag 101. Run at idle with AC off. Wait for fans to come on. Using hand, feel air temperature coming out of fan. It should be hot and stay hot until the fan shuts off. Watch your fingers. I won't go into fan problems because they are worse at idle and get better if your moving.
If the air is hot you have some coolant flow, if the air is warm and cools quickly you have poor coolant flow. You can also use your hand or even a point and shoot thermometer on the upper radiator hose.
If you have good coolant flow then the problem lies elsewhere. If the problem gets worse while driving and your coolant flow is good, you want to look for bubbles in your coolant tank. Start the car cold and after about 30 seconds crack the cap open. If you get a loud woosh after 30 seconds you likely have combustion gasses in your cooling system. That would be unfortunate.
