Hard to replace the Turbo?

I have a 2000 9-5 112,000 miles, 4cyl manual transmission. While it has sometimes had a light puff of smoke on startup over the years, now it's different. In the last two days, it started once with a heavy blast of mostly white but bluish smoke that didn't really dissipate like just water vapor. Then driving it I hit the accelerator and a large blast of heavy whitish/slightly blue smoke came out the exhaust and hung there. So I believe it is the Turbo rather than the head gasket (?).
Is there a better diagnosis for the Turbo? How hard is it to replace one. I'll just buy a good one and install rather than do the rebuild kit.
Thanks,
Tim
