The 4 bolts that go down thru that aluminum u-shaped thing (at least the firewall side ones) go into an aluminum bracket that also holds the alternator. Cross threading the inner one neatly breaks off the corner of that bracket with half the threads in it. Changing that bracket is a nasty job involving at least unhitching the alternator and pushing it away, to get at the bracket (some say the alt must come out).. Crappy engineering, in my view, although i should have known better than to force it. Apparently the way to avoid that is to support the engine solidly, then look down into the bolt holes to make sure it lines up centered. (I still haven't fixed that).
Taking that off, by the way, is a good part of the tensioner and belt chanegeout. But it is easy. jack it up slightly with a block, remove one small bracket up top that holds something down, undo the 4 bolts and the motor mount bolt, and you are there.
