There is no alternator "fuse".
The charging light has nothing (really) to do with the battery. What it is telling you is whether the alternator is receiving the excitation voltage it needs to charge. Light off: it's getting the volts, light on: it is not.
It could be as simple as the small wire falling off the D+ terminal on the alternator, or the alternator isn't grounded properly, or the serpentine belt is missing, on up to the alternator needing replacement.
If you rev the motor (3-4000 RPM), does the light go out? If it does, then the alternator (and belt) are probably OK, and it is probably the wiring to the alternator.
