This is a followup to my thread about severe fan vibration (link is below)
After 2 hours of struggle and one destroyed battery terminal puller later, I got the wiper arms off - eventually resorting to hammers, a window trim removal tool, and a board for leverage. Holy crap, that was nuts. Liberal amounts of antiseize were used in the re-assembly of the wiper arms after the job was over. The rest of the parts came out without drama.
The blower fan was crammed full of underhood insulation. I shop vac'd it out, but it still had a vibration at high fan settings, although it was much improved. I decided to replace it, and swapped in a new fan. On one side of the old fan the inner fan bladed were worn down, which must have been due to the stuff clogged in it. Since the fan spins so fast, it probably doesn't take much imbalance to make it vibrate. The replacement fan works perfectly.
Damn chipmunks.
