so...I've got a vibration under hard acceleration on my 2003 Saab Aero wagon. It's been there for the last 20k 0f it's 150k miles, through a couple of tire changes/balances, but is getting slightly worse over time so I'm going to do something about it soon. Conventional Internet wisdom seems to be that it's being caused by the inner driver on one side or both. I guess another possibility is that the differential output bushings can also wear out. I think I'm going to pretend that I didn't hear anything about that, and focus on the inner drives. I see two possible solutions:
- replace just the inner CV joint and housing. - 175 for the joint, 250 for the flange each side, total of 425 per side, plus labor.
- buy complete assembled axles with inner and outer CV joints from FCP Groton, Ebay, or a few other places for 79.00 each.
That seems just too obvious. I have to assume that the complete axles are Chinese knockoffs, but there are a lot of them out there, they carry lifetime warranties, and, well....they are cheaper and easier to replace!
Has anyone had any luck, good or bad, with non-Saab replacement axles/CV joints?
Sam
