new shoes and s(h)ox today Posted by NJ-PA Don [Email] (#1221) [Profile/Gallery] (more from NJ-PA Don) on Wed, 5 May 2010 14:28:13 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I finished replacing the shocks and struts today, Bilstein HDs, on my 03 Linear SW. At 65K miles the rears were shot and the fronts were weak. No brick hauling, just NJ/PA roads did them in. Then got some Conti DWS’s mounted and I can actually hear the radio again!
Thanks to various postings, including Herb and fixmysabb.com, everything went well. Took about 6 hours total, over two days with the fronts being easier, for some reason.
Invaluable tools were the spring compressors, of course, but also an impact wrench and a Dremel to cut the rusted end off of the rear tube and slot the tube, and then the bolt came right off. For the fronts, a hex wrench and a socket with grip pliers were sufficient.
Saved me $400 easily. First project like this since I was a teen working on my 1948 flathead Ford.
