I installed the MacKay host from eeuroparts this past weekend. It was not easy without the hose clamp tool. I used plastic bottles to collect the coolant as I took the hoses off. I punted toward the end and used screw on hose clamps. My valve was not leaking at 100K but I decided to do this as a preventative measure. Pointers are listed below. With the proper tools I could see it taking very little time.
Things needed (if I had to do it again):
- Several turkey trays or hoses to catch coolant.
-Saab coolant (I would drain it next time. I used distilled water to make up for my losses..about a quarter gallon).
-Hose clamp pliers. (Knew there was a tool..kicking myself now).
-Silicone vacuum hoses. (The one to the blowoff valve was rotted and tore
...luckily I had silicon hose I've been meaning to get around to doing)
-zip ties (to hang the unused bypass valve in place).
-patience and gumption (it was a tight spot to work in..followed procedure to get to the valve (including the bungee cord to hold the wiring).
-was able to leave throttle tube in place...only needed to take off ignition cassette to get to the top hose clamp.
Observations:
Heat and A/C work just the same..notice no difference with either. The amount of hoses replaced (4) was quite shocking...what a complex system. Get the clamp pliers (did I mention that enough).
