RR inner fender liners & rust Posted by Peter Martin [Email] (#3037) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Peter Martin) on Wed, 7 Jul 2010 13:09:28 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
When replacing outer lips on rr wheel wells of our '02 Sportwagon, decided to remove the plastic inner liners to look for rust. These liners are held in place by several threaded studs which are spot welded onto the wheel well surface. Lubricate with rust penetrant & wait- they break off easily! When removed I found a fair amount of road grime had collected around these attachment points. Worst was in the front lower just above where the Aero side panel attaches. Luckily only a little surface rust which will be treated with a rust treatment paint & touched up in factory colour. Probably will add a couple of coats of paint around all attachment points as the paint is very thin!
