Does sound like the early 'water into cylinder' HG Posted by nicknick [Email] (#731) [Profile/Gallery] (more from nicknick) on Tue, 13 Jul 2010 20:30:54 In Reply to: Excessive coolant pressure + hot start issues, Paul in NM, Tue, 13 Jul 2010 12:00:55 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
failure. I had a '89 900 that did those things (except low level, then normal coolant thing), you could hear the pressure quietly hissing for a while after shutting down as well (out of the cap). The HG blew about a week after selling it (i fixed it for free), and caused hydro-lock. The young girl i sold it to was smart enough to shut it off immediately when she saw steam, andwhen i tried to crank it, it locked up with a cylinder filled with coolant. You can bend conrods with this type of failure, so beware.
The poor starting after running is simply the one cylinder getting 'misted' by the coolant, and so it is wet when you crank. The moisture gets displaced soon enough.
With 93k, it is a little early for a HG, but it needs to be done sometime, right? I have no idea how difficult that job is on a 95, sorry. Good luck
