Last weekend, after replacing my tie rod ends (waaay easier than the balljoints were), I attempted to replace my OEM endlinks with a set of Moogs. I only worked on the one side as follows: with much effort I was eventually able to loosen the upper nut to within about 2 threads from the end of the bolt-shaft due to extreme corrosion. I did not attempt the lower nut.
Long-story short, I am now able to remove the upper nut, but have 2 other problems:
First, what's the best way to attack the lower nut? I am tempted to take a sawzall to it as I can't see anything else working, short of removing the control arm again (not fun), but before I destructively remove it, I need an answer to the following:
while loosening the upper nut, I notice that the angle of the bolt-shaft changes to the point that if I were to take the endlink off I am not sure I would be able to re-install it. What do I need to do to "unload" the swaybar so I can just slip the Moog in? Would jacking up the opposite side wheel help? It looks like if I put blocks under the disc rotor and lower the car onto it the strut would compress thereby "moving" the location of the upper-endlink attachment hole, which would allow the bolt-shaft to directly align. Am I correct? What technique have others used?
Much thanks
