My '99 Saab 9-5 was submerged in about a foot and a half of water in recent torrential rain and flooding in Boston. I was slowly driving through a few inches of water in a Target parking lot, and the engine hydrolocked (the air intake is right at the bottom of the engine -- terrible design!!). Fortunately it seems nothing was damaged in the engine itself, I removed all the water from the cylinders. However while sitting in the car waiting for the rain to stop (I have almost never seen it rain that hard), within 10 minutes I was in a foot of water at the front and a foot and a half of water at the back of the car. I got out and pushed -- a couple of saints got out of their cars and helped me. By the time we got the car to a higher spot, there was about 4 inches of water in the car.
The car won't start. What I need help with is figuring out what circuits are in the bottom 4 inches or so of the floorspace in a Saab 9-5.
Originally the engine would turn over (I didn't know the engine was hydrolocked at the time) but as the water level rose one by one various circuits started shutting down. After it stopped raining I spent the rest of the day pulling up carpets and drying stuff out. The car has now been sun-dried and aired out for a couple of weeks but still won't start.
The immobilizer currently isn't letting the car start, it displays a problem code, and every time it is cleared with Tech II, the code comes back up again immediately. The immobilizer is supposedly under the driver's seat but the seats wouldn't move. Three fuses had blown and I believe there's a 30A one that powers the seats and keyless entry system (which also doesn't work). The mechanic eventually removed the immobilizer box and said it didn't have any water in it.
After replacing the fuses, the mechanic said that there are all sorts of clicking noises on trying to start the car. I'm guessing this is the fuse box inside the dash?
At this point I need to figure out what wires or circuits or embedded computers exist in the bottom 4 inches of the car, and which ones I need to target to get the immobilizer working and the car starting again. Can anybody please help me out? I have already paid two mechanics way too much money to work on this and need to start doing the work myself.
Thanks for any help you can give!
