Slow cold start and hesitation - fuel pump?

2004 95 ARC with 50,000 miles.
I was previously (2 weeks ago) having problems with bucking and stalling at idle, then a crank but no start... New DIC, CPS, and small vacuum leak repair seems to have fixed that.
However I still have some weird symptoms. Every morning my car seems to have a little trouble starting. It will maybe crank 3 times more than it does when the engine is warm, and the lights will dim before the engine catches. Also on the first start of the day the car will stay around 1500rpm for 10 seconds or so then return to normal idle. Also there seems to be a little "confusion" at lower rpms: There is some hesitation and I have to get a little heavy on the throttle to get the car going, but then once it revs past 3000 rpms, its relatively normal. Essentially there is not a lot of power right at the 1000-2000 rpm range, and there doesn't seem to be much difference in response between 0 and 1/3 gas pedal position. When braking, sometimes it feels like the engine misses, but it is subtle.
Given the age and mileage of my car, the fuel and air filters will be replaced on Wednesday. Thursday I leave for a 2000 mile road trip, and perhaps I am being paranoid, but do these signs point to a failing fuel pump? Is there a way for my mechanic to test it? If the fuel pressure is where it should be am I good to go?
As always, thanks.
