A thought or two after 280K miles...... I drove my 2000 9-5 280K miles (50K miles/year) before I replaced it with a new 9-5 in 2007. From that experience I'll list the things I did as preventive measures as a series of points to consider.
1) CPS - never had one fail. Although, this is a cheap part.
2) Voltage regulator - I always replaced these at 100K miles. At 135K miles I'd give this some thought; they don't fail but the brushes wear down. At 135K miles it might be a good time. Saab used to spec brush length minimum at 4mm.
3) Serpentine belt and all pulleys - This should have been done at 120K miles.
4) Battery - If it's more than 3 years old I'd replace it. I've always had them fail around the 4 year point.
5) Fuel pump - Mine went at 250K miles, although others have had them go sooner. They can be checked with a current probe and a scopemeter. A Tech who knows electronics will know how to do this and read the display.
6) Fuel filter - Should have been done at 120K miles.
7) Hoses - At 135K miles and 9 years these are old. Careful checking of ALL hoses for softness, mushiness, cracks, breaks and bulges is real a good preventive step. Replacement in your driveway is real cheap; a tow is not.
8) Temperature sensor - cheap ($25-$30) and easy to replace in your driveway.
These are a few of the things I've experienced. Others may weigh in with some additional thoughts.
