I made the move from 9000 to 9-5 wagon a few years back and have now had three of them--2000 SE (V6), 2001 aero and 2000 lpt. All are good cars, all have issues. None of them handle as well as a 9000 aero and they feel much heavier. The V6 timing belt is not a big deal unless you drive tremendous distances, since the frequency is every 60k miles. The problem with the v6 is that it feels really nose heavy and only comes with a slush box. The aero is plenty fast but has suspension issues that can cost big $s to fix. The lpt is pretty nice all around and is plenty fast unless you really like to get speeding tickets. TCS is not the same problem with the 9-5s that it was with the 9000s, however, it is still sort of useless. Most importantly, if you are buying a 4 cylinder, make sure it has had regular oil changes every 3-5k miles (not the factory recommended longer interval) and that the PCV has been updated through #6. Finally, make sure that you get both keys with the car because it is pretty expensive if you lose the only key.
