I should emphasize the significant difference for the Saab 9-5 wagon on long highway trips (two hours or more) vs. local driving (half hour or less). I recently squeezed out a 26mpg on the SID on a 2hr+ trip on a tank of half-93 half-87.
On the Highlander, it's highly dependent on whether myself or my wife is driving the car, and which _brand_ of gas (not octane rating, very odd). I can get 22-24mpg out of it in mixed driving if the gas is from most Mobil stations (except one specific Mobil location), but my wife can get it as low as 16-18 sometimes both due to her driving style ("burning gas to burn up brakes" as I joked about) and her inattention regarding where to get gas. 87octane is all the Highlander needs. BTW, I have not driven the Highlander much in the last six months (it's become the mommmy mobil), so not sure whether the change in ownership for Mobil stations (XOM divesting all service stations) makes any difference.
Mobil gas makes no difference for the Saab wagon vs. other service stations.
