If it were going to make a sound, I think you would hear it in park as well. Sometimes they fail quietly. That is just the first thing that came to mind. A sudden flow of air into the intake from a bad booster could cause the idle to rise. If you push the pedal in park, does the tachometer fluctuate abnormally? Of course I have tech2, so I have to imagine ways to diagnose things without one.
