I think front strut degradation is deceptively gradual Posted by MI-Roger [Email] (#882) [Profile/Gallery] (more from MI-Roger) on Thu, 16 Sep 2010 03:44:43 In Reply to: So.. How does your Aero ride with 150K miles on it?, alpine951, Wed, 15 Sep 2010 15:24:31 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I replaced the original front struts on my Base 2000 this Spring (~270,000 miles) with Aero components. The old "bounce test" did not indicate they had failed, handling was not as crisp as original, but Hey; what should I expect with 270K miles. I had a full Aero suspension installed, the difference was astounding!
Rear shocks give ample evidence of failing at or before 100K miles. The front struts are not indestructible either. Maybe they are good for 150K miles, maybe they should be replaced whenever the rear shocks are replaced. Their degradation with age and miles is so gradual that it is easy to not notice they have actually failed.
