Test drove the 9-5 yesterday! Posted by B Millar [Email] (#1109) [Profile/Gallery] (more from B Millar) on Sun, 3 Oct 2010 13:11:48 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I could drone on for a long time about what a great car it is, but I won't. I loved the sound, smoothness, and "point and shoot" handling. It's definitely no Buick! While I think it's an appropriately sized car for it's class, it's too big for me, not that you feel it while you drive it. I have a feeling the next generation 9-3 will be the Saab for me.
The only gripe I had... was that it seemed a bit underpowered for sporting the "Aero" badge. The engine is more powerful than my Aero's but the added weight of the car and drive-train loss of the XWD seem to take a big bite out of it. My 2004 Aero seems MUCH quicker. If they're going to be squeezing ~200hp out of a 1.6t BMW 4-banger in the next 9-3, a 2.8t V6 should haul, but still perform efficiently when you don't need the neck-snapping power. I know it's all a big mess of politics between GM and Saab at this point regarding power output of these engines, so I guess we'll just have to wait and see what happens.
Anyway, it was an awesome ride, and as impressive as the 9-5 is after being developed 100% under GM ownership, I cannot WAIT to see what the new Saab shows us next! (Mostly the 9-3).
