They are, for certain, very "premium" prices for the 9-5. I'll hold off complete judgement on the 4 cylinder pricing until SAAB updates their USA website to list the model.
Along with many SAAB owners, what I find myself thinking is, "Well, you know SAAB is going to be offering at least $10k off of them before long, so if I take $10k off of INVOICE, then that gets the car down to a really nice price.." OR, I say, "If I wait about two years, I'll be able to pick up one of these 2010 Aeros for $25k or less with a few miles on it..."
My point is that even though this bodes well for us SAAB fans in the fact that it will get us into one eventually at a great price (as it has the previous generation 9-5 and current 9-3) - you just can't run a company like this.
I think the pivotal model is the 9-3 and its pricing when it is released in 2012 - they have to nail this car - both in features and pricing.
I'd like to say that SAAB would need to take the same approach as Hyundai - that is, build (arguably) super competitive and now attractive cars as (again - arguably) compared to their direct competitors at a price that undercuts those competitors. The reality is that SAAB just does not have economics on their side - their volumes simply will not allow that (unless the product is just cheaply built in the first place - which I am why, with GM, every redesign went more and more in house to the GM parts bins)...
I know this is a ramble, but I really just want SAAB to succeed, and in the short term, I just can't see them moving upscale without disastrous effects (VW in the US comes to mind in recent history).
