I would not....... Posted by Herb Hirsch [Email] (#114) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Herb Hirsch) on Mon, 25 Oct 2010 17:06:18 In Reply to: Anyone change the turbo preemptively?, john b, Mon, 25 Oct 2010 16:48:58 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I would not change the turbocharger preemptively.
I kept my 2000 9-5 Aero longer than any other Saab I've owned...280K miles. I drove it an average of 37K miles each year, with 50K miles/year during the last few years of ownership. I did a lot of long interstate trips to DE and MA from my home in NJ.
The turbocharger never blinked.
On my 2000 major component failures occurred at much higher mileage intervals than is typical.
As an example:
- Fuel pump: 250K miles
- Water pump: 200K miles
- Throttle body: 280K miles
- First front brake job: 100K miles
- First rear brake job: 200K miles
- Catalytic converter: 180K miles
- Transmission and clutch: NEVER
- Exhaust system (not including catalytic converter): NEVER
The point is that highway trips are very very easy on the car.
My recommendation.....ALWAYS do all fluid maintenance at appropriate intervals. Especially oil and filter changes.
