Finally trying to chase down an oil leak and I was ready to unbolt and begin replacing the valve cover gasket. However, I noticed some exposed internal reinforcing mesh visible on the big turbo hose going from the intercooler to the pipe connected to the throttle body. There was about a 1/4 " hole through to the hose interior at the throttle body end. I don't know how long this had been there, but it might account for some of the oil apparent on that side of the engine. I got the hose out of the car and gegreased it with some petroleum cleaner and then with Dawn detergent. After I dried the 2" round rot spot with a hair dryer, I used some of the black RTV sealant I had intended for the low side of the valve cover to recoat and build up the hose rubber that had gone away, both inside and out.
The RTV sealant was mostly set up and began curing within 1/2 hour before I put the hose back in. Being a 1999 9-5, I suppose a new replacement hose would be best, but I bet this repair will last a while. Now back to chasing the oil leak... I'm checking the oil presure switch now that there's leakage on the catalytic converter.
