Intermittent start as it has manifested in my 2004 Aero MANUAL transmission is vexing. It sounds more like what Leo is experiencing. Key in ignition ,turn on everything lights up. Turn the key to crank and that is what is intermittent. Many times engine will crank normally and start right up. However sometimes warm engine, sometimes cold turning key to crank and nothing else happens. No sound of starter relay or starter. After a number of attempts ranging from 2 to 40 it will engage the starter and start the engine.
OK, so I first suspected the clutch switch which is similar to NSS in an automatic. Testing revealed no problem with it, so bypassed it with a jumper so it is not a factor. Makes no difference.
I traced the wiring under the dash and found the starter circuit relay. I put a light in the circuit. Every time the key is turned on and the engine starter cranks the light lights, however when the key in start produces no crank no light either. Sometimes pulling the key out and turning around MAY help. Or remove key and lock the door with he remote MAY help.
This not an issue with the cable on the starter motor, definitely nothing to do with CPS. Has more relationship to alignment of the planets or magnetic orientation of the earth !!
You know car theft of 2004 unorthodox Swedish cars in upstate New York is a rarity. I really honestly wish that these anti theft devices were fitted with a date sensitive ability to disable them. At some point it costs more to diagnose and repair the anti theft than the entire car is worth !
Looking for insight '
