I realized the above title isn't fair.... The issue is not limited to the gorgeous downpipes fabricated by GS. Nor is it limited to Saab brand vehicles. The issue seems to affect all performance exhaust systems using aftermarket catalytic converters, and all brands/models of vehicles (multiple Ford F150 posts with this issue).
I have nearly 50,000 miles on my "new" downpipe, far more miles than many people ever drive their cars! The next week should reveal if I have a O2 sensor/catalyst issue or if I experienced a random nuisance CEL.
My options include: ~$5 for plug anti-foulers to move the O2 sensor; ~$100 for a new rear O2 sensor; ~$200 to have a new Cat welded into the pipe; ~$500 for a new downpipe; or a new/used Saab with far fewer miles. I'm planning to start at the low end of this price range - for now.
