So as my SAAB story goes... I just bought my dream car, an 03 Aero wagon with a 5 spd 2 weeks ago. Bought it well knowing it had a CEL, but seemed minor. Test drove it and everything. It had a rough idle, but smoothed right out and seemed to pull plenty hard at mid and high RPMs. I brought it into my Indy to have him go through the car and make sure everything was sound, figuring maybe it needed some new plugs. The dealer had just done a 140K service prior to purchase and replaced the DI. Well, come to find out, I had low/no compression in cylinder 2. So, pulled the head to find out valves or piston, and at least it's the lesser of two evils. It appears someone had been in there before, and did something wrong... My Indy says he's never seen burnt valves on a 9-5 before. Anyway, the head is off and it's getting all fixed up.
All I know is, i can't wait to see how the car runs with 4 cylinders, because when it was barely running on 3, it seemed pretty damn good to me. Apparently the engine management systems in these cars are pretty incredible and can compensate ALOT.
I got a good deal on the car and am not too bent out of shape to have to put some $ into it right off the bat. I know from here on out I shouldn't have to worry about much. Just figure I'd share my story with y'all.
