Sounds to me like the "Oil light" you're referring to is the low oil PRESSURE warning, not low oil LEVEL. You can have low oil pressure (with plenty of oil in the pan)for many reasons - sludge covering the oil pickup screen in the pan, a worn oil pump, worn bearings, etc. Adding more oil when you aren't low just compounds your issues and does not solve the actual problem of low oil PRESSURE. You should never drive with a low oil pressure lamp on as you can destroy the engine in minutes.
If it was an oil level light then it means you're not using your dipstick to check the oil level in time to add an appropriate amount and it is getting dangerously low. If you are in fact using oil it is either burning it or leaking it. You would see a leak of that size so it must have been burning it. Turbo is a good guess. Again though - first you need to determine which light is coming on so you know if it is low oil level or low oil pressure.
