A thin wood veneer placed in a three dimensional mold and injected with plasticizers to create the wear layer to protect the real wood may look the same.
I remember the first time I saw a Rolls Royce interior. The wood on the dash and leather on the seats were so perfect I thought the whole interior was vinyl. It sure looked like cheap vinyl to me.
