Just replace all the electrolythic capacitors. There should be a post on this board with the appropriate part numbers.
Don't bother with batteries - just check the voltage and make sure they are about 3 Volts or so (they should be). Replacing the batteries was the original fix for this problem but in reality the problem is the caps. Installing fresh batteries with a slightly higher voltage would usually make the problem go away a few months/years but would not fix it completely.
