... you need a new radiator.
This is a problem that seems notorious with the V6 radiator (trust me, I'm ordering my 4th one). The passenger side plastic tank on the radiator has some manufacturing defect and it develops micro-cracks right underneath the upper radiator hose nipple that leads to the thermostat. If you look in there (forward of the serpentine belt) I guarantee you'll find caked up coolant residue showing you how it's leaking. It also follows exactly the profile you described - it will leak when pressure builds up, leaving you a little puddle, and then it won't leak for a while.
One word of advice - don't buy genuine radiator! They all will develop this problem sooner or later. Get a good aftermarket one, like Nissens or sth. Send me an email and I'll send you instructions on how to replace it. 2-3 hours if it's your first time, 1hr if you've done it before. Oh, and if you didn't, be careful when mounting the fan assembly - it's held by little plastic hooks on the bottom and they break very easy!
