before even raising the car, I pulled one bolt off. oiled it with some 20 weight machine oil. was able to tap it with a socket wrench. I believe the black coating material they use that was also on the inside of the thread holes helped hold/start the tapping process. it was very tight so I went some, backed out, etc. bolt would get quite warm, hot even, but think it was made to take it. I did one mount with one bolt. then worried about overworking that one bolt, swapped it for another bolt off the other side to do the other 3 holes.

another snag was I did have some trouble getting the top nut off the driver side strut. it wasnt corroded, just very tight. my grip wrench holding a deep socket (rough finish impact) with an hex wrench down the center and a pipe on it didnt work like it did on the first strut. I couldnt break it. so I finally got the air impact wrench out again. I had had no luck with it before trying to vice grip the strut even with a belt around it. so I had to come up with something new.

this time I put a long screwdriver through one of the top mount holes and was able to bend it around enough to catch around the side of the spring clamp housing I was using to compress the springs. I didnt think it would hold it but did and the impact wrench was able to pull the nut off! so there is a new way to get that nut off! although, I think if yours is corroded this would only make the initial break as the mount is only tight with the center strut bolt when all the way tight.

overall a fun job and even got my 9yr old in on the wrench turning act. he even got his "click" on the 75 ft-lbs on the strut-hub bolts. exciting for him.
