I also see on the wiring diagram that the wire goes through connector H42-5 at pin 21 (that is the connector in the center of the engine bay partition aka against the firewall) its the large connector under a plastic cover on the firewall. THis is a common connctor for pin problems. SOmetime this connector will be disconnected for repairs like replacing the heater bypass valve which is located under the connector and when the connector is reconnected sometimes the pins may push back out of the connector. So that is an area I would check fisrt since is't the easiest to get to. You can also check to see if your getting 12 volts at pin 21 of this connector with the brake pedal depressed. this would let you know if the brake switch and J61 are ok or not. since the voltage goes through the switch first then through J61 then through pin 21 of H42-5 then on to pin 63 of the control unit.
I hope this helps.
