You knowledgeable gentlemen are probably gasping at the thought of what I am thinking of doing. However, I want to delay the expensive job of replacing a blown head gasket on the 2001 V6 and I need to get it smog checked and registered soon.
I’ve asked multiple questions and will appreciate your advice or experience on any of them.
I am thinking of using a good head and block sealer solution. I have called the technical help lines to ask about the various products. I already tried the best that Bars has, (HG-1) according to the Bars technician. It held for only one day but seems to have permanently stopped the clouds of white vapor that were coming from the exhaust.
It still has these problems: rough idle, smell exhaust in the expansion tank, it blows coolant out the expansion tank cap when hot and then no heat from the heater.
Technicians for other products have said to run their product in the cooling system at about 1200 rpm for about 30 minutes with the spark plug removed from the leaking cylinder. They also said to remove the thermostat and to bypass the heater while doing this so the solution only circulates through the cooling system.
I read on this site that the DIC is destroyed if a plug is removed and the circuit is not complete through the spark plug.
So to seal the head gasket, and to not destroy my DIC, could I run the engine at about 1200 rpm, on one bank of cylinders only for about 30 minutes with one DIC removed while the spark plugs are removed too?
Also, does this engine have the better quality head bolts that I could try to tighten first (the last part of vin is …2113006872)?
Could I hurt or destroy something?
Could this procedure work?
What product would be best to use (Seal A Gasket, Steel Seal, Blue Devil, ThermaGasket, something else)?
THANK YOU for any advice, experience, or comments.
