No, it is not common at all for head gasket problems on the V6 but it only takes that the upper radiator hose blows (very common)and that all coolant pours out and the driver keeps driving for a few minutes too far and the damage is done.
If you already have a hot engine going full freeway speed and a hose blow emptying the cooling system in short order, you only have a minute or so to get off the freeway and park the car. The best is to just pull to the side when safe and shut off the engine.
The engine and cylinder heads superheat quickly when loosing all coolant.
I don't know anyone from the top of my head in that area but it might be someone else that have a lead.
Since Scott (the owner of this site) lives in that area it must be someone there he can recommend.
