2003 Arc (V6) baby poo explosion in engine area?

While driving, the check coolant light came on. Pulled over, engine started smoking, and there was brown bay poo looking stuff on the coolant reservoir tank!
Didn't drive the car further and had it towed.
I am assuming that the baby-poo (light brown goopy stuff) looking stuff must have been oil mixed with antifreeze? I thought the V6's didn't normally have head gasket issues, and there have been no issues at all with overheating. Temp gauge didn't read high before this happened. Coolant wasn't low before this happened, and performance before this was just awesome as always.
Has anyone had this happen to them, or, does anyone have an idea of what this is or how bad the damage could be to the engine?
After this happened, turning the key (not starting the car) resulted in the check engine light and check oil light staying on. I didn't see any loose or blown hoses.
Thanks as always for your help!
