my motivation was to have the sagging springs replaced, and paying for labor, I had every little bit in the load path replaced: upper shock bushings, bump stops, washers, etc. There is a certain comfort in knowing that everything in the path has been reset to factory and good for another 8 years at least. I did not examine the old parts so I can't say what condition they were in, but the costs of parts is small compared to the cost of access. In the case of DIY: add up the cost of all the small bits and compare it to how difficult the job seems to you. Given that you are using Monroe shocks I suspect you tend toward fewer parts, but at least do the rubber bushings and the sleeve that fits inside them.
Disclaimer: I have no objection to Monroe. A couple of generations ago I worked with them to design a custom shock for a highway test trailer - they were very knowledgeable, professional, and competent, and the parts they supplied worked superbly. Just be aware that their shocks are aimed at a lower price point than some other brands out there and compromises must be made to achieve that. I have worn out new Monroe shocks in the past, something I've never managed to do with Saab's OE Sachs.
