The car has 130k on it. Tire pressures: 40 front, 38 rear. Tire pressures are the same as when the first Michelin Primacys got 52,000 miles on them.
We have gone from incredible to crap, as if something is terribly wrong. Yet two top notch shops can find nothing other than the ball joints. And neither think that that would cause this severe of an issue.
MPG has not changed much...maybe it has dropped from 32 to 30 on a long trip at 75mph. It does seem a bit less able to coast along easily, but this car has 220hp, so it is easily overcome with the gas pedal, and I probably would not notice it on the highway.
I do plan to do a coast down test, and compare it to another 9-5 wagon we own. Could be interesting, but would still not locate the problem.
The indy says the bushings look fine.
I am not sure, but isn't a "thrust" alignment supposed to somehow mimic the tire under acceleration, and is perhaps done right on the actual car? Never actually observed how they do this, but maybe that would give us a clue.
Regarding your car, there are lots of posts about REAR tires on the wagons showing inside wear...all being related to spring sag. Could this be the case on the front? Additionally, there are many Saab mechanics who believe the factory toe-in is excessive for this car, and will set the front tires more towards neutral. This may, then, cause more inside tread wear.
Just a thought, if your alignment guy is also a Saab nut...especially on an Aero! Your 45 series tires are wide enough to be quite sensitive to toe-in issues.
Thanks!, Craig
