The plastic fuel line is not heat shrunk around the fitting. That is a misconception of many here.
The elbow is pressed into the cold plastic line and that makes the plastic hug the fitting much tighter than if it had been heated up first.
With the use of a brake flaring tool to counter hold the pipe, it is not that much trouble to press a new elbow into the pipe but it needs to be done in small steps so that the plastic line don't kink.
