Installed one on my '01 9-5 Aero Wagon few months back. Its one of those items you dont know you "need" until its installed. To me the best part of the install is the defined shift pattern. The short shifter tightened up a lot of play in the shifter (even after replacing the plastic oe bushings a year back). Still a small amount in the trans internal shift forks, but minimal.
Would suggest install of a new ignition switch when you install the shifter. Have to swap it all over from the old housing, worth the $$ to install new while its out.
Install it, you'll love it. Beside 3" downpipe and tune, best mod to the Aero yet.
