Ok, I counter with, what people will go through to save an extra buck on an oil change instead of using a place that actually know what they are doing.
I charge 18 minutes of my time to do an oil change and that includes the phone call, schedule appointment, greet the customer, get the estimate paper out and signed, test drive car, check all the lights and fluids and belts and all that stuff, get it up in the air, drain oil and replace filter, look over the brakes and tires and check for oil leaks or any other anomalies under the car, get it down and fill up with oil, reset service message and finish up the work order and invoice and go through with the customer what I have found and when and if the need to address it.
It is no way that I can do it in 18 min but it usually take 30 min to an hour to complete and it comes up to about $80.00 plus tax using fully synthetic oil on a regular 4 cyl engine. And some ask, why do you charge that much for an oil change? ARRGGHHH.
And you only get 4.5q of oil in that price when I do it. Since I change the oil hot engine, it will drain the oil cooler as well and with 4.5q it will take it up a smidgen over the max line which will be good for the longer oil change intervals that some people drive.
