I've done without removing the manifold from head (without the manifold could be a lot easier but manifold only removal is not so quick. Just drill a small hole in the center of broken stud (using a dremel tool or similar), paying attention to stay as centered as You can. Then use a anticlockwise extractor and very slowly screw it inside the previuosly made hole; once it stops, grip over the broken stud will be effective enough to allow You to slacken the bit of stud.
(I've started this job on a friday night: spraying some thin oil inside the stud hole and letting the whole thing sleep overnight. The day after operations went ahead pretty easily before 12 am).
PS pay attention not to damage head fillett while drilling the centre hole.
