2002 Aero Wagon. About 92K. Software updated to 2003 Standard. DIC was updated during the recall period (I swapped in a circa 2003 DIC that I had as a spare and relegated the recall unit to spare service). Plugs are veterans but about 10K shy of their expiration. 93 octane fuel.
The symptom is *very* intermittent, one which I had noticed in the past but only when towing (and thus too occupied staying in one piece to look around). This past weekend I observed it while on cruise at what I would argue in court never happened 80 mph.
It certainly "feels" like a misfire, but no codes. (The car has never failed to code given the opportunity). Hard to imagine something like the DIC as it has occurred only very sporadically over the past 20K miles. I think it possibly occurs both on cruise and on manual throttle, but I can't be certain. During the event, the boost gauge flutters, as if the throttle (or wastegate) is fluttering. I have only ever experienced it using 93 (or 92) octane fuel, never using 87 (the usual diet, especially during periods of low fuel costs when the percentage increase in cost of premium eats into the mpg improvement, but never when towing). And it only occurs deep into an extended trip. Engine temp is dead normal and fuel economy is as expected.
Ideas? I do have a set of PFwhatever7s that I could swap in place of the PFwhatever6s if detonation from a too-warm plug is suspected. Note than other than the very rare misfire-that-isn't, the car now and always has run perfectly, including brief full power intended acceleration events.
