Can't comment on a hitch rack. Have the factory bars for our 2003 Aero sedan, use it to carry a big Yakima cargo box or two bicycles from time to time. I would estimate it creates a 10% mpg hit at highway speeds. The car will do 32 mpg easy without the rack, 28-29 mpg with it. Note, when the rack is on the car is typically piled high with people and cargo as well so 1-2 mpg of the reduction could be due to that.
