From what I have read and observed with the motor running, it doesn't matter. Look at the back of the black plastic bracket where the arm is limited by two stops. The motor actually runs longer than required to move the arm in either direction. When the arm hits the stop, the motor halts. I believe that is the purpose of the resistor, to decrease the power to the motor so when the arm hits the stop, the motor stops running until the power is cut. The only tricky part of reassembly will be to make sure the free end of the arm is engaged with the recirculation flap rod. Look up inside where you removed the motor and you will see the white rod end that moves left and right (from driver to passenger) positioning the flap. I'ts easy to move with your finger.
