Took the saab down to vacation- 650 miles each way. on the way down, while accelerating, the engine would miss- then lurch as it caught. ( it never wanted to completely stall) I would nurse it up to the speed limit by tapping on the accelerator, not wanting to stop on the DC beltway.
I put high octane gas in, cleaned the throttle intake and it did fine the rest of the week- check engine light even went out.
On the way back, after driving for 8 hours, the same thing happened- especially when trying to go uphill. We got home safely, now the check engine light is on with the following codes:
po171 Bank 1 system too lean
p1300 ignition timing adjustment
po300 random multiple misfires detected.
The car runs smooth now, but I don't want to take it out of the local area till I fix this problem
I am pretty good at "swaptronics" but would love your advice on what to go after. The engine has 225K on it with good compression.
my first thought was an ignition cassette, as to my knowledge these are original. I have also read that throttle bodies can cause trouble. the fuel pump is relatively new.
Thanks in advance for your thoughts.
Rob
