Hello to all!
I was hoping to clarify steps to remove and refit hydraulic lifters on my 2002 9-5. I’m little bit confused with procedure in WIS. It says to set crankshaft to the 0 mark, remove chain tensioner and the camshafts, lift out tappets. So, at this point I can safely clean tappet’s sliding surface for cylinder 1 and 4 (valves are closed), right? How do I do this for cylinder 2 and 3- reinstall everything and find TDC, remove camshafts again?
In the Valve Gear (in the car) procedure WIS says to find TDC for cylinder concerned. For installation- “turn crankshaft to the 0 marking and then 45 degree, fit tappets, line up their timing marks and then turn crankshaft back to 0 markâ€. Why turn 45 degree and why can’t I keep the crankshaft at 0 all the time?
Some background: I’m in the process (and hopes) to prolong life of the sludged engine. Pick screen cleaned, I see 20 PSI oil pressure at fully warmed up idling engine, but the top ticking noise is still there.
Next step- clean lifters and replace bad ones. I have some used ones- not a best idea, but I’m trying to keep a cost down.
Thank you for your help!
Victor
