Ethanol will damage fuel systems that are not designed for it. MINI (and other BMW products) had fuel pumps that were sensitive to ethanol and would fail. MINI has since corrected that issue, but occasionally it creeps up on older MINIs, at least on the MINI forums I track. I also ride a Ducati, and learned that older Ducati motorcycles (pre-2006) had fuel related issues due to the corrosive properties of ethanol on rubber components. My 2007 ST3 has been fine. My German friends tell me that a debate is ongoing as Germany is starting to put ethanol in their fuel creating a high incidence of fuel pump and other fuel system related failures.
