Air sander/polisher to clean wheels for/from sticky wei

The place that installed my tires puts an air sander/polisher to wheels that use sticky balancing weights. They used a green, rough pad. I’ve not pulled the wheels to check, but I imagine my wheel are beat up from this as they don’t seem to take much care. Places have trouble cleaning off the old weights and glue, but this seems extreme. Most places don’t give a darn about wheels. They get tossed like junk. If the customer can’t clearly see the damage, oh well.
Any suggestions for dealing with this? Is this common? I guess I’ll have to get under the car and take some pictures. I find anytime the car is touched something tends to go wrong. The damage adds up over time.
They also set the rim width at 8.5 instead of 7 on the balancing machine. Their plastic gauge must have been bent. I’m not sure how much that matters. I’ve not driven at highway speed yet. The weight amounts seem reasonable based upon past installs. One wheel takes over 2oz, but it has done that before.
