Not sure I understand your comparison here... I understand that the on board diagnostics involve some automatic pressurization of the fuel tank and then a timed interval monitoring of pressurization loss. If the loss exceeds a certain amount, then the first alert is a dashboard message to check for a loose/defective fuel filler cap. Several more repeated cyle alerts and failures and the CEL (Check Engine Light) appears.
Maybe the tank swelling against the body sheet metal dislodges the Bosch sensor which is only held in place on top of the pedestal with a single screw and an O-ring. In my case, I think the sensor clearance is OK and I can see a visible gap in the seam between the pedestal and the tank body. Using a combustible gas leak detector device also pinpointed this likely location. More on this when I drop the tank and try the HDPE (High Density Polyethylene) plastic heat weld.
