1999 Upgraded vs 2003 Linear...Fair to Compare?

Despite being temporarily sidelined with a needed fuel tank vapor leak repair, my 1999 2.3l 5spd Saab base model with 181K miles still seems a better car than the 2003 Linear automatic with 45K miles I just test drove (asking price $7.4K). Granted, I've swapped out the stock suspension for a near Aero set-up (no sway bar upgrade) and added a bigger Saab option plastic air intake pipe, and added a Remus exhaust, but no ECU tweak. The 2003 turbo seems to come on OK through the auto tranny shifts, but just not the same as "rowing the boat". I was disappointed in the cheesy fake photo wood plastic dash in the 2003. Nothing like my 1999 with 3 dimensional depth and warmth. I even thought the doors felt lighter and the body side section looked thinner.
Am I just not appreciative of the auto tranny or I just have better taste for the slightly lowered look of my current 1999 9-5? Apples to oranges perhaps?
